STUDY TRIP : FINLAND HERE WE ARE !
Our HPC-AI students had the opportunity to visit during the 2nd day of our study trip in Helsinki two great places:
– IQM Quantum Computers a quantum computing company covering a wide range of applications in quantum hardware, software and algorithms. IQM produces quantum systems ranging from 5 to 150 qubits, soon allowing cloud-based access. Very engaging discussions with IQM paved the way for potentiel student access to quantum computers. Many thanks to Juho Hotari, Omar C. and Mikio Nakahara for the warm hospitality during our visit.
– Maria 01, the Finnish startup accelerator known also as the Finnish Silicon Valley. We had the great opportunity to meet the CEO Sarita Runeberg, she gives us a great talk about the accelerator’s role in supporting startups’ scale-up journey. Many thanks Sarita Runeberg for the warm welcome.
Gratitude to IQM Quantum Computers and Maria 01 for a fruitful and inspiring day!
Our 3rd day visit program in Finland continued in the snowy city of Kajaani. A great and much-awaited visit by our students to CSC, the Finnish Supercomputing Center. We had the opportunity to visit one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world, LUMI (1st in Europe and 5th globally).
The visit involved presentations and discussions with leading HPC scientists focusing on key scientific applications (climate, astrophysics, genomics, LLMs, …). Topics included optimizing performance on LUMI’s AMD GPUs, Flop/watts efficiency, and utilizing excess heat to benefit hundreds of households in Kajaani. Notably, LUMI achieves a remarkable carbon-negative footprint of -12400 tons, a rare feat in the world of data centers.
